For Challenge #078 Charlie/Coop
Title: Harbor House
Author: Emma DeMarais
Pairing/Characters: Billy/Charlie
Rating: PG 13
Length: Blissfully long (3 parts)
Why I'm reccing this fic: It's a companion piece to Safe Harbor (charlie's pov) but told from Billy's point of view. It's a slow building romance set in the midst of a dangerous consulting job that placed Charlie's life in danger. Why do I love it so? Because it is everything a fic should be. The canon characters are spot-on, the dialogue is witty and sweet, the drama and angst surrounding the case builds wonderful suspense, and i want to marry her OCs in this piece- strong vibrant women, every last one. And they would have to be to keep a hell-raiser like Billy in line. ;) And I adore the way she writes Billy/Charlie- sweet, hot, and playful. They both bring out the best in each other without being overly sacchrine or off-character. Her verse is so alive and breathing that if I read her SHH (Safe Harbor House is what I nicknamed the world) before bedtime, I will have the best dreams about her characters. So run, don't walk and go read this fic. You will thank me for it!

Title: A Day in The Life
Author: Emma DeMarais
Pairing/Characters: Billy/Charlie
Rating: PG 13
Length: around 10K

Why I'm reccing this fic: It's the sequel to the Safe Harbor/Harbor House fics! Like I said, I adore this verse. And this sequel is the perfect blend of world-building and a montage of glimpses into the daily life of the new Cooper/Eppes household. Just like its prequels, this fic is just lovely, sweet, and wholly gratifying without being overly or artificially sweet. She pwns both witty playful banter as well as authentic, relatable OCs. A brilliant follow up to the first two fics.

Title: The Eighth Night
Author: Emma DeMarais
Pairing/Characters: Billy/Charlie
Rating:PG 13
Length: less than 10K

Why I'm reccing this fic: It's the sequel to A Day in the Life! In fear of spoilers, I won't say much about this fic other than it's simply and beautifully golden. A lovely happy followup that was deeply satisfying for this most excellent romance. :)

Title: A Wink And A Bow
Author: [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]
Pairing/Characters: Megan/Colby
Rating: NC-17
Length: ~4500
Why I'm reccing this fic: One word: pegging. Seriously, though, Emma does a brilliant job of domme!Megan and sub!Colby here, scorchingly hot and wonderfully in character for both of them. Whenever I miss Megan a lot, I go back and read this fic.

Title: Whatever You Need
Author: [livejournal.com profile] spikedluv
Pairing/Characters: Don/Charlie
Rating: NC-17
Length: 4146 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Aside from it being hotter than the sun, it turns the tables on more than a few ubiquitous tropes often used in D/Ch fiction. I've read it several times now and it holds up under secondary reads because the character voices are true and the love between them is just as sexy as the porn.

Title: Part Of The Cycle
Author: [livejournal.com profile] castalie
Pairing/Characters: Don/Charlie
Rating: NC-17
Length: 2629 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Multi-layered characterizations here interspersed within the amazingly sexy porn (that is graphic but never purple). The imagery, well, it's fabulous. However, it's the pillow talk that comes after that really enchants me and keeps this one among my favorites.

Title: Lick
Author: [livejournal.com profile] emmademarais
Pairing/Characters: Don/Charlie
Rating: NC-17
Length: ±1300
Why I'm reccing this fic: The structure of the fic really works for the anticipation build, and when the porn moves past innuendo and into the physical, it may burn because it really is that sexy. Plus I am a sucker for established relationship fic where the couple tries new things because the trust is already in place.

Rec Your Own 2008

This is an interesting idea, letting authors point out fic that didn't get enough attention in 2008. (Thanks, Spiked!) I have a really bad habit of posting a ton of great fic in December to get it out before the year ends, totally missing the fact that almost nobody's online reading fic during the holidays. /headdesk/ So here's three (it was tough to choose!) out of a bunch of my December fic people might have missed while out having fun.

Note: For people looking for ideas for Numb3rs Awards fic to nominate, please check out the Master List of Master Lists (Always found on 1/1). This year people are adding links to the End of Year fic memes which often list which fic they think were best/their favorites, which is a great place to shop for fic to read and nominate.

Title: Safe Harbor
Author: [livejournal.com profile] emmademarais
Pairing/Characters: Charlie/Billy
Rating: PG13
Length: 16K (Yes! It's a long one!)
Why I'm reccing this fic: I wrote it for my slashwife's birthday in February, but it languished in beta/rewrites so long I barely got it out same year. I feel bad that few people saw her present and IMHO it's very good if you like slow building slash relationships (like A Shift in the Continuum), H/C and casefic.

Title: Addiction
Author: [livejournal.com profile] emmademarais
Pairing/Characters: Don/Charlie
Rating: NC17
Length: 23K (A *really* long one!)
Why I'm reccing this fic: I didn't publish any Don/Charlie pretty much in the first half of 2008 so I made up for it with this super long shamefic with boatloads of angst and porn. It's all flavors of wrong, but I miss that from 2005. ;-) Unfortunately it got lost posted in December so this goes out to the cestficcers: I have not forsaken you! LOL

Title: Turnabout (Last Call Series)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] emmademarais
Pairing/Characters: Don/Charlie
Rating: NC17
Length: 4K
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because so many people kept asking for the next installment in the Last Call Universe and I kept flailing over it. I finally got it out in December, so if you liked the series, this fic opens it up into a whole new direction that I'll be writing in 2009. And yeah, more Don/Charlie because I'm behind on that ship. ;-)

Pairing/Characters: David/Colby and Charlie/Colby
Rating: R
Length: approximately 6k
Why I'm reccing this fic: This cracky series is a total pleasure, and I don't even feel guilty about it! I recommend it for whenever you really need a good belly laugh.

Title: Two Brothers
Author: [livejournal.com profile] emmademarais
Pairing/Characters: Don, Charlie (Gen)
Rating: PG

Why I'm reccing this fic: A enjoyable series about the brothers reconnecting after many years apart. Takes place after Margaret's funeral up to the Pilot episode.

Title: Mimetic, Voodoo and Morning
Author: [livejournal.com profile] pookaseraph
Pairing/Characters: Charlie/Edgerton

Title: The Justice series
Author: [livejournal.com profile] cpwatcher

Why I'm reccing this fic: A very hot fic series, with Howard being brought into Don and Charlie's fun.

Title: Teacher's Pet
Author: [personal profile] emmademarais
Rating: NC-17

Why I'm reccing this fic: Because Oswald is so crushing on the teacher! I enjoyed Oswald's unsure but enthusiastic interest and Charlie's confidence and patience.

Title: Vice
Author: [livejournal.com profile] emmademarais
Pairing/Characters: See the series post for details here
Rating: NC17
Length: Novella
Why I'm reccing this fic: It's a brilliant twist of the Numb3rs Universe we all know and love, AU without being gimmicky. It's the kind of tale you can lose yourself in, and look up several hours later. Yes it's a WIP, but IMO totally worth the wait.

Title: V is for Verdict
Author: Emma deMarais
Pairing/Characters: Robin/Karen/Don
Rating: NC-17
Length: 2,905 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: Not enough Robin Brooks fics and never enough Karen Fisher fics out there. And, even tho' I'm a prude and don't generally like smut, I liked how the characters were handled in this.

Title: Dirty Pretty Thing
Author: Leda Speaks
Pairing/Characters: Don/Nadine
Rating: NC-17
Length: 440
Why I'm reccing this fic: Very little Nadine fiction out there. And I thought the character was handled in an interesting manner.

Title: Untitled Stick Figure Adventure
Author: [livejournal.com profile] raeyashi
Pairing/Characters: Coop/Charlie/Don
Rating: Mature
Length: N/A
Why I'm reccing this fic: Stick figure erections. Need I say more? [livejournal.com profile] raeyashi has a magical brain.

Untitled Stick Figure Adventure

Title: 62 Degrees and Cloudy
Author: [livejournal.com profile] emmademarais
Pairing/Characters: Charlie
Rating: PG13
Length: 100 words
Why I'm reccing this fic: If you just need to satisfy a Numb3rs craving, [livejournal.com profile] emmademarais always has something hot and fresh. Emma's experimental fics are always a revelation to me, but this one is a master lesson in economy of words.

Title: Eppescest Summer Porn Challenge episode tag "series"
Author: [personal profile] emmademarais
Pairing/Characters: Don/Charlie
Rating: NC-17/FRAO
Length: various
Why I'm reccing this fic: This isn't a series, exactly, but a set of 8(?) episode tags.  For a variety of reasons, I'm not in general a D/C fan, but I love my Numb3rs fic so I read everything out there.  This is a fun series because it's tags to a bunch of different episodes, and each has a different feel/attitude to it, matching up with the episode.  There are also other writers for this challenge worth checking out.

Title: U is for Undercover
Author: [personal profile] emmademarais
Pairing/Characters: Don/OMC
Rating: NC-17
Length: 6,964
Why I'm reccing this fic: Diego is a lovely OC and works wonderfully with Don. Their conversational and literal dancing has great steamy suspense. (Besides, if I keep reccing it, maybe she'll write a sequel. ;))

I'd like to rec [livejournal.com profile] emmademarais to you today. Emma is a very challenging author to read. She likes to experiment in her writing, style-wise, as well as the characters and pairings that she writes. Emma doesn't have a website, but at the end of each month she does a round-up post in her journal of that month's writings (note this includes non-Numb3rs fic, too).

She has a number of series, my favourite Don/Charlie series being the Last Call series. There is also the Obshina series, which is Charlie/Ian and the Wild Card series which is Larry/Megan. The Hanukkah series is a nice look at the brothers through the years, which goes from gen to 'cest over its course.

Emma is an author well worth devoting your time and attention to. And in addition to her writing talents, she is also a co-mod over at [livejournal.com profile] numb3rs100, encouraging other writers to contribute to the fandom, and supports other people's comms as well.

Here are three MUST READ fics for Ian lovers:

Title: Hot Water
Author: amoral_angel
Pairing/Characters: Edgerton/Don
Rating: NC-17
Length: 4112
Why I'm reccing this fic: Beautifully written!!! Great idea too. Edgerton has fallen in love with Don and is cornered into revealing his feelings. Don is stunned by the revelation as well as his reaction to it. Just beautiful writing and awesome storyline.

Title: Instruction
Author: Emma DeMarais
Pairing/Characters: Edgerton/Don
Rating: NC-17
Length: 2445
Why I'm reccing this fic: Its absolutely brilliant. Don & Edgerton as alpha males need to figure out whose dominant while at the same time struggling with sexual tension. Just wonderful. A fic that incorporates the more primal aspects of their personalities and the side of himself that Don doesn't show his family or current team. Excellently written too.

A brief excerpt )

Title: Three of a Kind
Author: ALF
Pairing/Characters: Edgerton/Don/Coop
Rating: NC-17
Length: 533
Why I'm reccing this fic: Its an Edgerton & Don & Coop fic! What could be better than those three???

One of my favourite drabbles is one that was only published last week, but as I told the author, it really was a perfect encapsulation of what a drabble should be. It hinted at a lot of things, but it also was complete in itself. I found out afterwards that it's part of a series but I think it stands beautifully on it's own. Also: hey, femslash! Rare as hen's teeth; rarer, still, when it's so good.

Anything You Say by [livejournal.com profile] sororcula (femslash; Megan/Amita; 13+)

She feels the heat in her face, but she can't move, frozen in place under Megan's gaze.

[livejournal.com profile] emmademarais is crazy prolific, and she's not afraid to play with her format which is why I like her writing. I also like her sympathetic view of the characters that is so completely canon. (I, personally, love canon but have a hard time writing to it; Emma kicks a lot of ass in that department.) It's difficult to choose a favourite because she publishes so many and it can get difficult to keep them all in order, but this is a recent one that I remember enjoying a lot. Again, it's part of a series, but it reads well on it's own. The beauty of the drabble is that it combines both stasis and action; a snapshot of a moment that changes your perceptions, or your ideas.

A World of Numbers by [livejournal.com profile] emmademarais (gen; Don, Charlie; pre-series)

When their mother was dying, Don would go to the garage and watch Charlie work on P vs. NP.

I don't think there are many people who write Megan/Larry so well as [livejournal.com profile] jestana. I openly envy this talent in her because every time I try to write the pairing, I angst-up. But [livejournal.com profile] jestana brings a loving touch to this lovely couple. Most of her Megan/Larry fic tends to be longer, but I managed to find a drabble, hurrah!

Phone Conversation by [livejournal.com profile] jestana (Larry/Megan; Rampage, S2)

Larry? It's Megan. How are you?

I rarely rec Numb3rs fics without reccing [livejournal.com profile] raeyashi and that's because it would be a sin to omit her. [livejournal.com profile] raeyashi is the sum reason why I read Don/Coop fic, and the reason why I try to be a story-teller as well as a writer. Sometimes when you read her work, she takes a different narrative route. Her writing becomes cinematic: it's wonderful. I don't know anybody who can make me feel like I've stepped out of my immediate frame of reference and into something much more daring. There's backfic, and then there's [livejournal.com profile] raeyashi.

The Love Song of Dick and May by [livejournal.com profile] raeyashi (slash; Don/Coop; pre-series; PG)

You’ve heard this story before.

Finally, a rec that plays to my personal obsession: that is, Megan's history. [livejournal.com profile] neur0vanity is practically a staple of the fandom and yet, shamedly, I've only recently read her work with interest. (This is more to do with my 'cest-squick issues than a negative opinion of NV's writing ability). Obviously I should have come around earlier because [livejournal.com profile] neur0vanity has quite the touch for this fandom. This particular rec gives an insight into Megan that seems so obvious, but is so rarely said out loud. It's also fairly chilling to think of the road not taken.

Somebody's Daughter by [livejournal.com profile] neur0vanity (gen; Megan; post-Two Daughters; 15+)

She choked, but the nausea curbed her hunger.

On a slightly cheekier note: please, someone has to rec David drabbles. There's got to be some good ones out there, yes?

Why I'm reccing this fic: Enjoyed the playfulness and the strong voices of the characters.
