Welcome to Numb3rs Fandom Recommendations, where the recs aren’t just for fan fic anymore! *g*

I’m very excited about this community because I’ve been thinking about doing something like this for a while. When

ncisficrecs was recently created, I decided that there was no time like the present. This community will be a combination of the various rec communities across LiveJournal, based mainly on my experiences with

crack_van,

ds_recs and

ds_recsredux.

Here’s how it’s going to work: We’re going to alternate themed rec challenges with assigned rec’ers on a weekly basis. New weeks begin on Mondays. Our inaugural themed challenge will be posted next Monday, March 19th.

During themed rec weeks you can make up to three recs that fit that particular theme.

During assigned rec weeks, you sign up to rec, pimp, talk about anything you want, so long as it’s Numb3rs-related. Fic, episodes, vids, characters, authors . . . .

ETA: To clear up any confusion, I wanted to clarify that this comm is for all genres of fic, so if you're not a Don/Charlie fan like me, don't despair! Gen, Het and Slash fic are all welcome! *g*

Here is a list of the available weeks for the remainder of March and for April. If you’d like to suggest a theme, or if you’d like to sign up for a week all your very own, please do so in comments. Sign-ups for Assigned Rec weeks will be on a first-come, first-served basis, but I’ll be compiling a list for the following months, so just tell me if you’d like to be on it.

Are we free to start posting recs for Manhunt now?

I think this is a great idea, and I really hope it takes off. I have one question, though, and it's almost impolite to ask, but I'm going to anyway: can you keep the non Don/Charlie folks in mind? I don't read much in this fandom because it's hard for me to find anything that isn't Don/Charlie. And while I understand that it's an important pairing in the fandom and that recs are likely to reflect fandom demographics, any nod to the non D/C folks would be awesome, even if it's just one gen rec challenge.

Of course, this is your comm to do with as you see fit, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. :)

Oh, absolutely! As I said on the profile, this comm is for anything and everything Numb3rs-related. We'll have themes that cover all the characters and genres, and *coff* if you sign up for a week of your very own, you can rec anything your little heart desires. *puppy eyes*

Sweet! I've been hoping to find some good fic recs to trawl through for quite some time. And normally I'd be more than happy to volunteer, but I honestly don't have anything to contribute when it comes to fic recs. I could probably do some meta essays, but not until later in the summer. I just don't have the time now. I'll keep in mind, though--I've been looking for an excuse to meta about Don and Colby.

Essays about Don and Colby would be wonderful!! I look forward to that.

Not to pressure you, but merely to *coff* clarify, you don't have to rec just fic. You can pimp your favorite episode, video, scene, author, and as you know, character. /overly helpful

Which week would you like? The weeks that have 'Assigned' listed after them are available for sign-up.

The Manhunt theme will be posted next Monday. I wanted to give people a chance to know the comm existed before diving right in with a challenge, but I included it up there to generate interest in the first theme, so I'm glad you've got some recs ready to go!

Oh, the irony...

I too was bemoaning how lame the sole recs comm was in this fandom so I went about contacting each of the three mods of that comm to get them to hand over the keys to me.

They finally did, but before I could put the new version in place voila - you have a different comm up.

Oh, wow, that is ironic! And to make it even more ironic, several months ago when I saw how slow that comm was, I considered asking the mods if they were interested in allowing me to take it over, but I wasn't sure how to word my request in a way not to make it seem I was saying I thought I could do a better job with their comm than they were doing. *g*

Anyway, I backburnered the idea until the creation of the NCIS rec comm piqued my interest again. In fact, I checked out the existing Numb3rs rec comm to see if there had been any recent posts, but I never even considered that it might be under new management.

Sorry for butting in ahead of you, but thank you for the good wishes for the comm. *g*

Even more irony... The under new management info was on the profile, not in the journal posts. /sigh/ I actually considered deleting the existing posts and putting in a new layout just to show people something was up, but I figured best not to tease when I was still plotting out how to organize the new comm and such.

Perhaps once you are up and running here I might find a niche you haven't covered, but for now the comm will have to lay fallow. Oh well... As long as the fandom gets a shot of new life we all win.

Thanks so much! I'm glad you think it's a good idea, and that you've joined. Hopefully one of the themes will inspire you to rec a fic you've read, but if all you get out of us is more fic to read, that's good, too! *g*

Absolutely! I'm taking sign-ups for April if that works for you. The two weeks currently available are the 9th and the 23rd. Let me know if you'd like either of those.

Can I suggest a Special Agent Ian Edgerton theme week??? He is the only recurring character to have appeared in all three seasons so people should have plenty to rec about him!!!

Not to mention he's a fantastic character!!!
