That’s it for the Drabbles Challenge! I'm going to be leaving early tomorrow and will be gone most of the day, so I'm closing this challenge a few minutes early, rather than closing it late and infringing on this week's rec'er. Thanks so much to everyone who rec’d this week. Anytime you’re looking for a good drabble, you can find the recs in Memories or follow the Drabbles Challenge tag.

This week [livejournal.com profile] irena_adler is up to rec her Numb3rs favorites.

If you’d like to suggest a challenge or sign up for a week of your own, please go here. Please note that there are still lots of weeks available in May/June.

For an enjoyable drabble series, I recommend --

Title:
Conference Wives series
Author:[info]dance_the_code
[Unknown site tag]Pairing/Characters:  Don/Coop, Charlie/Ian (eventually), Megan/Larry, Colby/David, various
Rating:  Mostly PG with the occasional NC-17 part
Length: Really long in short pieces (though not all are technically drabbles)
Basic premise:  Several years ago, Charlie was the sperm donor for a lesbian couple that were his good friends and colleagues.   (And he usually only saw them at conferences, hence the name.)
Why I'm reccing this fic:  This drabble series is a lot of fun to follow as it goes through many moods and subplots.  There's a prequel that shows Charlie at college and his time with these two women, but most of the story is after the two women die and Charlie suddenly finds himself as a single parent to a precocious three-year-old boy named Isaac.  Along the way, many things happen such as Isaac matches real people with the wild stories he'd been told (Don is a super hero), Coop buys a canoe, Ian bakes a cake and falls in love with Charlie, Charlie gets kidnapped with only Isaac as a witness, Alan has trouble dealing with a sniper for a son-in-law, etc.

One of my favourite drabbles is one that was only published last week, but as I told the author, it really was a perfect encapsulation of what a drabble should be. It hinted at a lot of things, but it also was complete in itself. I found out afterwards that it's part of a series but I think it stands beautifully on it's own. Also: hey, femslash! Rare as hen's teeth; rarer, still, when it's so good.

Anything You Say by [livejournal.com profile] sororcula (femslash; Megan/Amita; 13+)

She feels the heat in her face, but she can't move, frozen in place under Megan's gaze.

[livejournal.com profile] emmademarais is crazy prolific, and she's not afraid to play with her format which is why I like her writing. I also like her sympathetic view of the characters that is so completely canon. (I, personally, love canon but have a hard time writing to it; Emma kicks a lot of ass in that department.) It's difficult to choose a favourite because she publishes so many and it can get difficult to keep them all in order, but this is a recent one that I remember enjoying a lot. Again, it's part of a series, but it reads well on it's own. The beauty of the drabble is that it combines both stasis and action; a snapshot of a moment that changes your perceptions, or your ideas.

When their mother was dying, Don would go to the garage and watch Charlie work on P vs. NP.

I don't think there are many people who write Megan/Larry so well as [livejournal.com profile] jestana. I openly envy this talent in her because every time I try to write the pairing, I angst-up. But [livejournal.com profile] jestana brings a loving touch to this lovely couple. Most of her Megan/Larry fic tends to be longer, but I managed to find a drabble, hurrah!

Larry? It's Megan. How are you?

I rarely rec Numb3rs fics without reccing [livejournal.com profile] raeyashi and that's because it would be a sin to omit her. [livejournal.com profile] raeyashi is the sum reason why I read Don/Coop fic, and the reason why I try to be a story-teller as well as a writer. Sometimes when you read her work, she takes a different narrative route. Her writing becomes cinematic: it's wonderful. I don't know anybody who can make me feel like I've stepped out of my immediate frame of reference and into something much more daring. There's backfic, and then there's [livejournal.com profile] raeyashi.

You’ve heard this story before.

Finally, a rec that plays to my personal obsession: that is, Megan's history. [livejournal.com profile] neur0vanity is practically a staple of the fandom and yet, shamedly, I've only recently read her work with interest. (This is more to do with my 'cest-squick issues than a negative opinion of NV's writing ability). Obviously I should have come around earlier because [livejournal.com profile] neur0vanity has quite the touch for this fandom. This particular rec gives an insight into Megan that seems so obvious, but is so rarely said out loud. It's also fairly chilling to think of the road not taken.

She choked, but the nausea curbed her hunger.

On a slightly cheekier note: please, someone has to rec David drabbles. There's got to be some good ones out there, yes?
