Title: Someone to Watch Over Me
Author: Zubeneschamali
Pairing/Characters: Don, Karen Fisher, Alan
Rating: T
Length: 11,292 words (5 chapters)
Summary: An alternate ending for 'Man Hunt.' What motivates someone to offer his or her life in exchange for that of a stranger?
Note: This fic is the Numb3rs Awards Round One winner for best AU.
Why I'm reccing this fic: Because it's a really good fic and shows a different protective side of Don than we normally see in fic. Most of the times he's protective of Charlie or occasionally Alan, but here it's in line with his work. Don being protective of a witness. It takes the scene where Don and Coop get McDowd and takes it to a far darker turn, where McDowd manages to get the jump on Don...

Someone to Watch Over Me

Since angst fic is my absolute favorite type of fic, this rec possed quite a challenge for me to choose only three. Therefore I had to set some parameters:
1) I am not re-reccing anything as almost everything I've recced already is angst
2) Since there is so little cross-posting between FF.N and LJ, I decided to go for all FF.N fics as most people who will view this are LJers. So hopefully this will introduce you to some new fic.

Title: Time to Kill
Author: Zubeneschamali
Pairing/Characters: Don, Benny Natale
Rating: T
Length: 8,675 words (2 chapters)
Summary: What if there was another reason for Benny Natale to hang around L.A. after killing Leah Wexford — like getting revenge on the FBI agent who thwarted him five years ago in Albuquerque?
Note: AU for In Security.
Why I'm reccing this fic: It's a great angst fic and unique from most others due to its unusual point of view. The entire fic is told from Natale's pov from beginning to end. Part of the reason I like this fic so much is because the thought of Benny going after Don crossed my mind during the episode when we learned Benny was staying in LA and I was really hoping he'd try something along these lines. Plus I love the idea of Don having to drive himself away from help so that Benny can exact his revenge.

Title: Sympathy for the Devil
Author: DreamBrother
Pairing/Characters: Don
Rating: T
Length: 1,369 words
Summary: Pleased to meet you, hope you guess my name, but what’s puzzling you is the nature of my game.
Note: Dark fic!
Why I'm reccing this fic: Beyond the fact that it is a great Don angst fic? Well, the situation Don finds himself in is different from what would be expected. Instead of Charlie being used to get to Don, Don is targetted to get to Charlie who has been whisked to safety along with Alan, leaving Don as the only way to find him. The only problem? Getting Don to actually talk and give them what they want to know.

Sympathy for the Devil

Title: Night Thoughts
Author: shaolingrrl
Pairing/Characters: Charlie, Don
Rating: T
Length: 1,838 words
Summary: What if Don did not start therapy?
Note: Dark fic!
Why I'm reccing this fic: Charlie comes in from the garage past midnight to find his brother sitting alone in the dark... with his gun. Great little ficlet showing what might have happened to Don without Bradford's help. Dark and angst, a brilliant combination in my opinion, especially when it is poor Don at the center of it.

Here are two wonderful, angsty Don fics that aren't (as far as I know) posted anywhere on LJ.

Title: The Fugitive
Author: Zubeneschamali
Pairing/Characters: Don, (Charlie, Alan, Megan, Colby, David)
Rating: T
Length: 139,634 words (16 chapter + epilogue)
Summary: Inspired by the classic story, an innocent man wrongly convicted of murder must flee for his life and his freedom while seeking the truth.
Note: AU, branching off after Money for Nothing. In this world, there was no mysterious DOJ assignment for Megan, no Janus List, and there never will be.
Why I'm reccing this fic: This is an excellent and detailed fic. It starts shortly after Don is convicted of murdering Special Agent Liz Warner in an attempt to prevent her discovery of his criminal activities within the FBI from coming to light. Luckily for him, a minor quake causes his prison bus to crash, allowing him to do what nobody expects... run. As he desperately attempts to uncover Liz's true killer on his own, he must also evade the FBI, led by the determined agent who investigated his case, ... and the assassin hired to take him out.
The story unfolds beautifully and the cross country descriptions are fantastic. The slow way that the conspiracy behind the corruption and murder unfolds is masterfully done.

The Fugitive

Title: Set the Fire
Author: Lisa Paris
Pairing/Characters: Don, Charlie, Alan, Megan, Colby, David
Rating: T
Length: 23 chapters + prologue & epilogue
Summary: First of all, he was conscious of the quiet. Of the cold, and the unearthly silence . . .
Note: This fic is posted in two places (that I know of). The first is fanfiction.net, where it is still being posted one chapter at a time. The second is the fanrush forums, where all the chapters are already posted. The problem with the second site is that there is no central list with all the chapters, only a listing of all the threads started by the author.
Why I'm reccing this fic: A wonderfully angsty fic. After successfully infiltrating a criminal organization, Don becomes a target in order to prevent him from testifying in court... and for personal revenge. The only problem? Don puts up a struggle when cornered and throws off the plan. The end result? The bullet meant to kill him, though hitting his head, doesn't kill him. Unbeknownst to the hitmen, he lies alive where he was dumped. Will the others find him in time?
Or will Don die, cold and alone?
